About this place
Standing in a quiet residential corner of Higashi-Oi, Shinagawa Ward, Cat's tail is a welcoming cafe decorated with feline figurines inspired by its name. It is not an animal cafe with live cats, but rather an easygoing spot where gentle jazz plays in the background, making it an inviting stop mid-walk or a peaceful corner for reading.
Among the sweets, the homemade rare cheesecake is the obvious starting point. Gently mild and never overly sweet, it has a soft, delicate texture that pairs naturally with a set order of black tea or freshly ground brewed coffee, turning afternoon tea into an unhurried treat.
The food menu is equally substantial, featuring a reassuring lineup of kissaten standards. Offerings range from soft, runny-topped omurice and nostalgic ketchup Neapolitan to meat-sauce spaghetti, beef curry, and ginger pork rice bowls—ideal for a filling midday meal. Lunch sets come with salad and a drink, providing a practical option for an everyday lunch.
The beverage selection extends well beyond basic drip coffee to specialty teas and mixed drinks. Between multi-scented jasmine tea, tea served by the pot, whipped-cream cocoa, and iced matcha au lait, it is easy to find something to suit the mood while letting the hours slip by.
